  • UK Mediation: insurer and insured fire loss valued at £3million.
  • UK Appointed by President of RICS to domestic construction dispute.
  • UK Mediation on-going: Client and Main Contractor £1million plus.
  • UK Mediation: Client and Main Contractor £1m+, transfer to Early Neutral Evaluation.
  • USA dispute between general contractor and owner, claim and counterclaim both in excess of $10M. Two full days of mediation produced agreement on many points reducing the amount in dispute to $2M.
  • UK dispute between main contractor and subcontractor claim and counterclaim £100k +. Full days negotiation produced settlement.
  • UK dispute between main contractor and earthworks subcontractor. After exchange of synopsis of case parties settled.
  • USA dispute between owner and architect. After mediation meeting parties settled.
  • 1992 to date advice and ad-hoc mediations for Manchester based PLC on on-going basis. Disputes involve clients and PLC, mainly to do with construction: bathrooms and kitchens.

Peter Fenn took up an academic post after a career in the construction industry with posts in private practice; construction companies and nationalised industries. His first academic position was as a visiting lecturer at the University of the West of England followed by a lectureship at Dundee Institute of Technology now Abertay University. Since taking up a post at at one of the Northwest's most prestigious universities in 1990 Peter has also held posts as visitors at universities in Great Britain and abroad. During the academic year 1997/98 Peter was visiting professor and Scholar-in-Residence at the Department of Construction Engineering University of Kentucky.

Peter’s main research interest lies in the disputes between parties to construction contracts. In 1992 Peter secured an EPSRC grant to study construction disputes, this is believed to be the first research agency grant awarded in this field. The grant was collaboration between his university and Masons Solicitors and Privy Council Agents. This collaboration was the start of long term relationship which produced many publications, the research was cited in influential government reviews of the construction industry (The Latham Review) and the legal system (The Woolf Review). This collaboration culminated in a publication in the prestigious journal Nature.

Peter has a secondary research interest in bats and their presence within buildings he is currently training for a roost visitors licence to enable him to assist these endangered creatures.
